I grew up in Minneapolis, MN and have wanted to be a photographer since I was little. I developed a love of travel on my first big trip to Florida when I hopped in the car with my Aunt and we watched out the window as the outside world went from freezing snow to fun in the sun. I ended up moving to Florida years later and then to Hawaii. I studied abroad in England for a semester and traveled around New Zealand for a winter. Between my moving to far away places, I always return to Minnesota to start again. I have a thirst for traveling and experiencing new cultures and environments that may never be completely satisfied. My love of travel is coupled well with my love of photography. I attempt to capture the essence of the places that I visit so I can share the feeling of being there with people at home.
I became a professional photographer in 2003 when I started working for a wedding photography company. I was trained in the photo journalistic approach and it suites me. I love taking pictures of people when they are being themselves and not posing for the camera. They can be their true selves and it is reflected in the images. These are the photographs that I treasure the most because they show more than just how the people look. I take a fun, relaxed approach to my portrait sessions, offering guidance if needed, but focus on showing the personalities of the people I am capturing. Portrait sessions can take place in numerous locations that help to portray who the people are and what stage of life they are in. I love taking pictures that I know people will treasure and look back on for years to come.
